Poppy Court in Sutton Coldfield is one of McCarthy & Stone’s Retirement Living PLUS developments.
The brief
We worked closely with the Poppy Court residents, who wanted entire communal areas, stair wells and fire exit entrance matting, stripping out and replacing with a heavy duty commercial carpet. We suggested a JHS Commercial Carpet; Universal Heathers which is not only specifically designed for such areas, but also offers a plush domestic look and feel, unlike typical contract carpet.
The old carpet was uplifted with a commercial carpet remover and the new carpet was fully bonded to the sub floor with F Ball – F3 Flooring Adhesive.
Our directors spent many hours working very closely with the residents of poppy court as it was predominantly their decision on floor choices. We attended many coffee mornings which really put the residents at ease, as they could talk directly to us about any queries or concerns regarding the time scale of works, working hours, removal of rubbish and the overall tasks involved.
The main factor that placed Solihull Carpets above any other flooring contractor is that the directors personally project manage the whole process, and are present on site every single day working along side our team of dedicated employed skilled fitters.
Residents lounge
The original carpet in the lounge was the same as the communal corridors and the residents wanted a more luxurious looking area to be established. We used JHS Commercial Carpet again, opting for Park Royal, a high grade contract carpet, which delivered the luxury look with ease.
The lounge originally had no underlay whatsoever so to enhance and build on the luxury brief we used F Ball Cloud 9 – which is a 9mm contract underlay to give the carpet that extra comfort under foot. The underlay was glued down to the sub floor and the carpet fully bonded to the underlay with F Ball – F3 Flooring Adhesive.
Dining room
After uplifting and disposing of the old carpet, we replaced with Moduleo LVT to create a more contemporary modern dining room for the residents, that will be easy to clean and maintain for many years to come.
Challenges
Whilst fitting the lounge the residents had a few concerns about the carpet going under the coffee machines so we quickly came up with a solution to their problem. Using the same flooring as the dining room, we installed Moduleo LVT, placed under the coffee machines and framed with silver trims to create a designated, easy to keep clean area.
With a scheduled open day for Poppy Court, the entire refurbishment project had to be completed within a 4 week timeframe. The project was delivered on time and on budget, and the refurb was very well received by the client, the residents and visitors to Poppy Court.
